Internal Family Systems

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a non pathologising and compassionate therapeutic modality that works with the whole of our system to support healing and integration. I trained in this model after personally experiencing the depth of lasting change and healing that this way of working can facilitate, and I really love supporting clients in this form of inner work that is so gentle and respectful, while also so potent.
Parts of us can end up in extreme or challenging roles (such as the inner critic or perfectionist, or even somatic states such as shut down or dissociation). This almost always comes about out of a desire to stay safe and protect our system, the best way we knew how at the time. IFS offers the opportunity to come into relationship with these isolated or fragmented parts, and in offering a depth of witnessing and compassion, can support the healing and release of burdens that our systems has come to carry.
Sessions generally take place seated and focus on the inner relationship between our self and the different parts within our system. With embodied awareness and inner dialoging we learn to bring curiousity and compassion towards our inner system, and in this way create conditions of trust and safety to allow for a process of healing to emerge.
Everyone's healing process is unique and guided by their own inner wisdom or Self energy. As a practitioner I see my role as one of walking alongside you, to support your system to access your own inner connectedness, clarity, creativity, compassion, curiosity and calm. I have witnessed time and again in my own system and with others how when we integrate polarised or stuck parts inside, we become better able to receive the innate gifts and wisdom that we all hold, just as the sun is always present but can become temporarily obscured by the clouds.
IFS is a non pathologising and evidence based therapy that has been shown to be effective for a broad range of issues, from physical conditions to emotional, psychogical and trauma based issues.
Please get in touch if you are curious about how this way of working might be able to support you.
